The Hearne is built with a heavier hand than some of our other rugs, which is a deliberate choice for rooms that get used every day rather than admired occasionally. The pile is combed New Zealand wool set into a cotton foundation weave, dense enough to resist flattening under regular furniture and footsteps without feeling stiff or overly formal underfoot. A jute backing gives the whole construction extra weight and helps it stay put on the floor rather than sliding or curling at the edges. Colour comes entirely from plant-based dyes, which is part of why the tones read as muted rather than bright: these dyes settle into wool a little differently than synthetic alternatives, producing a softer contrast that tends to suit a wider range of rooms. It is not a rug designed to make a loud first impression, but one built to still look reasonable after a few years of regular use.
